TOPIC 8: SYMMETRIC KEY CRYPTOGRAPHY

Screenshot (2062) Symetric-Key-Encryption.jpg

  • If A wants to send a message to B, A first will first need a key i.e. K1 to encrypt the message to a non readable format called a cipher text
  • This non readable format – cipher text- will be received by B and B will need the same key, K1, to decrypt the message to get a readable format.
  • So between A and B is K1.
  • A wants to send a message to C, So between them is another Key ,K2
  • As the no of users increase ,so is the number of keys.

  • So as the number of users increase, so is the number of keys and managing that many number of keys can be hectic and tiresome.
This drawbacks of symmetric key brought about the concept of asymmetric key cryptography
